Serve by Expiration
Laughter, not salmonella
BY NICOLE GLUCKSTERN

Hard-boiled serial drama, space-age musical, Greek tragedy — Thunderbird Theatre Company has subverted many stock theatrical genres over the past nine years with trademark boisterous good humor and a sly touch of literary acumen. Catch the troupe this month at Exit Stage Left in its first sketch comedy show, Serve by Expiration, written by Sang S. Kim and codirected by Claire Rice. Kim, who previously contributed to the Thunderbird's 2005 production of The Las Vega-Nauts and the 2003 Night of Terror, has been writing sketch comedy in a little place called the Big Apple for five years. At last he bombards the Bay with his wry take on weighty social concerns such as homelessness, international espionage, modern dating, and infomercial conspiracy theories. Starring several Thunderbird regulars (including Tavis Kammet, last seen as Calibos in Release the Kraken) and welcome newcomers (such as Jennifer Dean of the Custom Made Theatre Company and La Vache Enragée), Serve by Expiration will make your belly ache with laughter rather than salmonella. Longtime Thunderbird collaborator Jason Harding adds to the general hilarity with comic animated shorts.
